Preparing for a newborn can feel overwhelming. To help new parents (and save you from unnecessary purchases), I've put together a realistic newborn essentials checklist.
First things first:
What to pay attention to - Summer or Winter Baby
In the first one or two months, summer and winter babies need completely different items. Summer babies should wear loose clothing, and we need to pay attention to using sun cream on sunny days and getting a sunshade when going out. When shopping for winter babies, keep in mind that they need to be dressed in layers and need warm outfits.
And now, the list:
1. Clothing
- 6-8 long and short sleeve bodysuit
- 3-4 pants - preferably footed pants, as socks comes off easily!
- 5-7 footed sleepsuit
- a few pairs of socks
- 2-3 hats (warm hats for winter babies)
- padded snowsuit (for winter babies)
- laundry basket
- hypoallergenic washing liquid

2. Nappy Changing Must-Haves
- Disposable or cloth nappies (expect at least 10 changes a day!)
- Wipes (fragrance free)
- Nappy cream
- Disposable changing mat - accidents will happen
- Nappy bin
3. Feeding Essentials
- At least 20 burp clothes - babies spit up a lot!
If you choose breastfeeding:
- 4 Nursing bra
- Nursing pads
- Nipple cream
- Nursing pillow
- Breast pump
If you choose bottle-feeding:
- Bottles
- Formula
- 6 Bibs
- Sterilizer
- Bottle warmer
- Bottle brush

4. Safe Sleep
- Crib with a firm mattress
- Crib bumper
- 3-4 cotton fitted sheets
- 2-3 waterproof fitted sheets
- 2-4 sleeping bags
- Baby monitor
5. Bath Time
- Baby bathtub - or an insert
- Bath thermometer
- Gentle baby wash (or emollient wash cream) and shampoo
- Hooded towels
6. Travel and On-The-Go Items
- Pram
- Car seat
- Nappy bag
- Baby carrier
- Blanket
7. Other Baby Essentials
- Hair brush and comb
- Baby scissors

- Nasal aspirator
What's Not Necessary
Fancy baby shoes
Wipe warmer
Expensive newborn outfits - babies grow fast!
Every baby is different, but this list covers what you really need. Remember to keep it simple, and don't forget - you can always buy extras later if you need them!

Mums, what was the most useful baby item you had? Anything you wish you hadn't bought? Let's chat in the comments!
See you in the next post! xx
